1. Puerariae Radix [Pueraria] (81):
Traditional use - fever reduction,
headache, stiff neck, fidgets, thirst, diarrhea, etc. Has an antipyretic
effect, anti-convulsive effect, coronary artery-dilating effect,increased
cerebral blood flow effect.
2. Ginseng Radix [Ginseng] (529):
Tonifying effect - acts on pituitary
and stimulates the adrenal glands, thus increases the body s
resistance to harmful stimulation or stress, and allows for extreme
temperature changes, stimulates the nervous system - increases nervous
impulses, analytical thinking & overall mental performance,
and decreases fatigue and tension; Cardiotonic effect - increases
the heart contracting and slight blood pressure, stimulates sexual
function; Hypoglycemic effect - lowers blood sugar, antidiuretic
effect - causes retention of sodium, thus decreasing excretion of
urine effect on digestion - increases protein synthesis, appetite,
and lowers blood cholesterol, antihistamine actions.
3. Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma
[Atractylodes] (524):
Traditional use - spleen deficiency,
fatigue, loss of appetite, mental fatigue, diarrhea, edema, spontaneous
perspiration, dizziness, vomiting. Has a diuretic effect, sedative
effect, blood sugar-lowering effect, stomachic/digestion effect.
4. Poria Cocos Sclerotium [Hoelen]
(305):
Traditional use - promotes diuresis
(increased excretion of urine), tranquilizes the heart, soothes
the nerves, strengthens spleen. Has a diuretic effect, nutritive
effect (spleen/middle part of body), calming effect, anti-ulcer
effect.
5. Polypori Umbellati Sclerotium
[Polyporus] (304):
Traditional use - promotes diuresis,
reduces distention and fullness due to edema, etc. Has a diuretic
effect, antibacterial effect.
6. Alismatis Rhizoma [Alisma] (272):
Traditional use - promotes
diuresis (increased excretion of urine), calming the heart, soothes
the nerves, strengthens spleen. Has a diuretic effect, effect on
fat storage in the liver, hypotensive (blood pressure) effect, hypoglycemic
(blood glucose) effect, antibacterial effect.
7. Amomi Fructus seu Semen [Cardamon]
(387):
Traditional use - pain due to
swelling in the stomach, stagnancy of undigested food, lack of appetite
vomiting diarrhea, etc. Has an aromatic effect stomachic effect,
effect on intestines.
8. Amomi Cardamoni Fructus [Cluster]
(332):
Traditional use - Dispels moisture,
harmonizes stomach, strengthens, expels wind.
9. Massa Medicata Fermentata [Shen-Chu]
(730):
Traditional use - promotes
digestion, strengthens spleen, controls diarrhea.Has a stomachic
effect.
10. Saussureae Radix [Mu-Hsiang]
(427):
Traditional use - harmonizes
liver and stomach, controls pain, vomiting, diarrhea etc. Has an
antibacterial effect, intestine regulating and analgesic effect.
11. Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium
[Citrus] (413):
Traditional use - Has a stomachic
and expectorant effect. Traditional use for pain, coughing, vomiting,
flushing up.
12. Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium
[Blue Citrus] (352):
Traditional use - Soothes liver,
disperses accumulations, dissolves phlem.
13. Zingiberis Officinalis Rhizoma
[Fresh Ginger] (64):
Traditional use - cold and flu
herb, nausea, vomiting, swelling, pain in chest and abdomen. Has
an anti-emetic effect (inhibits vomiting), stomachic effect (stimulates
gastroenteric activities), sudorific effect (stimulation of capillary
blood circulation), antibacterial effect, lowering of blood pressure.
