1. Astragalus Radix [Astragalus] (521):
Traditional use - diuretic
effect (induce fluid passage), is effective against degeneration of
the kidney, shown to delay proteuria and high-blood cholesterol disease,
cardiotonic effect - increases contraction of normal heart, vasodilation
effect - dilates blood vessels, improves blood circulation of the
skin, enhances nutrition and immune system, antibacterial effect,
hypotensive effect - lowers blood pressure due to its vasodilation
action.
2. Rehmanniae Glutinosae Radix [Rehmannia]
(148):
Traditional use - nourishes
yin and blood. Has a hemostatic effect - hastens the coagulation
of blood, cardiotonic and diuretic effect, diuretic effect, hypoglycemic
effect - lowers blood sugar.
3. Corni Fructus [Cornus] (50):
Traditional use - strengthens
the stomach, reduces indigestion. Has an aromatic, arminative, and
stomachic effect.
4. Epimedii Herba [Epimedium] (563):
Traditional use - impotence,
weakness in the loins and knees, arthralgia. Has an aphrodisiac
effect, hypotensive effect, antitussive, expectorant, anti-asthmatic.
5. Dioscoreae Oppositae Rhizoma
[Discorea] (285, 677):
Traditional use - urinary
disturbance, uric-acid arthritis, rheumatism. Has an anthelmintic
effect, antifungal effect.
6. Cinnamomi Cassiae Cortex [Cinnamon
Bark] (375):
Traditional use - deficient
kidney, limb chill and feeble pulse, warms spleen and stomach, dispels
accumulated chill, invigorates blood vessels. Has an increased circulation
effect, stomachic effect, antifungal effect.
7. Poria Cocos Sclerotium [Hoelen]
(305):
Traditional use - promotes diuresis
(increased excretion of urine), tranquilizes the heart, soothes
the nerves, strengthens spleen. Has a diuretic effect, nutritive
effect (spleen/middle part of body), calming effect, anti-ulcer
effect.
8. Alismatis Rhizoma [Alisma] (272):
Traditional use - promotes diuresis
(increased excretion of urine), calming the heart, soothes the nerves,
strengthens spleen. Has a diuretic effect, effect on fat storage
in the liver, hypotensive (blood pressure) effect, hypoglycemic
(blood glucose) effect, antibacterial effect.
9. Moutan Radicis Cortex [Moutan]
(144):
Traditional use - invigorates
blood circulation, menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, abdominal
pain, macula, hematemesis, epistaxis. Has an anti-bacterial effect
- extensive, central nervous system effect - calming effect, lowers
fevers, hypotensive effect (lowers blood pressure).
